Pine Lake Park
The Lakeshore area around Lake Merced was developed just before and after World War II as a “model community,” complete with single-family homes, apartments and townhouses. Like Park Merced, the real estate was state-of-the-art when built. A trip from the lake to Fort Funston shows you what most of Western San Francisco looked like before it was developed: vast sand dunes with a few sturdy flowers and trees dotting the landscape. The Stonestown Galleria is near San Francisco State University. Stern Grove, the world-renowned Olympic Golf Club, Harding Park Municipal Golf Course and the San Francisco Golf Club all are scenic components of this neighborhood. Pine Lake Park is an enclave of family residences adjacent to Stern Grove, and many beautiful homes border the golf courses.
